چکیده

Aim: To investigate the relationship between preoperative vitamin D deficiency and recovery/healing time from postoperative hypoparathyroidism or hypocalcemia.
Material Method: The sample consisted of patients that underwent thyroidectomy 25-hydroxy-vitamin analysis 2014 2018 at General Surgery Clinic Health Sciences University Ankara Numune Training Research Hospital. Of 1598 who total thyroidectomy, 73 were included in study. These selected 214 developed hypocalcemia. patients’ demographic characteristics, surgical indications, operative findings, pathology results, biochemical parameters clinical outcomes retrospectively obtained electronic records.
Results: study, 10 (13.7%) male 63 (86.3%) female. Preoperative level was normal 16 deficient 57. divided into two groups: Group 1 with vitamin-D levels 2 deficiency. There no statistically significant difference Groups terms parathormone (months 1, 3) calcium (p>0.05); however, significantly differed groups.
Conclusion: Our study suggests having a does not have effect on recovery hypocalcemia after thyroidectomy. Therefore, we consider it is necessary to measure routine screening apply replacement.

Relationship between onset of hypocalcemic symptoms and the recovery time from transient hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to examine whether the time required for recovery from transient hypoparathyroidism is correlated with the onset of hypocalcemic symptoms in patients with total thyroidectomy. METHODS Medical records of 54 patients were retrospectively reviewed. The correlation between the onset of hypocalcemic symptoms and the recovery time were compared for all patie...

Preoperative vitamin D deficiency and postoperative hypocalcemia in thyroid cancer patients undergoing total thyroidectomy plus central compartment neck dissection

Background There appears to be a lack of consensus whether preoperative vitamin D deficiency (VDD) increases the risk of postoperative hypocalcemia and decreases the accuracy of postoperative parathyroid hormone (PTH) in predicting hypocalcemia in thyroid cancer patients undergoing total thyroidectomy (TT) plus central compartment neck dissection (CCND). This study aims to address these issues....

Hypocalcemia after minimally invasive thyroidectomy.

We conducted a retrospective study to determine the incidence of postoperative hypocalcemia following minimally invasive thyroidectomy. During the 2-year study period, 74 patients-16 men and 58 women (mean age: 43.7)-underwent either total or hemithyroidectomy through a 3-cm incision. Postoperative hypocalcemia occurred in 14 of these patients (18.9%)-4 men and 10 women-all of whom underwent to...

Hypocalcemia due to vitamin D deficiency in exclusively breastfed infants.

This report is based on observations during the conduct of a study of hypocalcemia in infants and children. In a study of 50 cases, 13 exclusively breast fed infants manifesting with hypocalcemic seizures were confirmed to have vitamin D deficiency. None of the 13 infants had received vitamin D supplementation. All of them had biochemical evidence of hyperparathyroidism and low levels of 25 (OH...
